The lengthy wait is ended if you were enticed by the prospect of a new AI-powered Copilot+ PC with the newest generation of AMD or Intel processors but discovered several tricks were lacking. Finally, a few of those Copilot+ functions are being extended beyond devices that use Snapdragon X series processors. About a year has passed since Microsoft unveiled the Copilot+ PC brand, a new line of computers that prioritize AI performance. Qualcomm was the only source of silicon for these devices for months.

Microsoft finally updates Intel and AMD PCs

With the release of the AMD Ryzen AI 300 series and Intel Core Ultra 200V series processors in late 2024, other chipmakers were finally able to take a piece of the Copilot pie. But it wasn’t enough because AMD and Intel computers couldn’t access a good number of those functions.

Today is the first day when this will change. According to Microsoft, Copilot products including Live Captions, Cocreator, Restyle Image, and Image Creator are becoming available on Copilot+ gear that has an AMD or Intel processor.

What is altering?

This feature, which starts with Live Caption, allows English captions for audio, video, and real-time interactions like meetings. Additionally, it can translate text between 27 Chinese languages and over 40 English languages.

Users will eventually be able to operate their PCs using natural language instructions thanks to a new technology called Voice Access. Copilot+ devices with a Qualcomm processor are now receiving it, but AMD and Intel hardware compatibility is also coming soon.

In terms of creativity, Paint now offers the AI-powered Cocreator tool, regardless of the hardware in your computer. It can “make artistic creation and image refinement more intuitive and approachable,” according to Microsoft. This flexibility allows users to blend hand-drawn input with text-based edits.

The Restyle Image and Image Creator capabilities are now available on AMD and Intel processors computers in the Photos app. Similar to how you use ChatGPT to produce Ghibli-inspired art, the latter enables you to generate graphics in response to text prompts. The Restyle tool, on the other hand, applies creative effects to photographs using a preset-like method.

With the March 2025 Windows update, AMD and Intel-powered Copilot+ PCs will be able to enjoy all of the previously described AI experiences. Despite fulfilling the minimal AI performance criterion, it’s noteworthy to note why these functionalities weren’t initially accessible on AMD and Intel processors computers.

However, the bad luck isn’t going away anytime soon. Microsoft just revealed an update to Windows Search that would greatly improve the ease of finding files, images, and settings tools.
Regretfully, it will only work with Copilot+ devices that use Snapdragon chips.
